TNPDS Smart Ration Card
There are around 5,80,298 ration card holders in Tamil Nadu. Ration card holders have requested the Tamil Nadu government to convert their Chinese option family card to rice option card. Tamil Nadu government has decided to accede to this request of the people and convert the family card with sugar substitute to rice substitute ration card. So all those citizens of Tamil Nadu who had earlier opted for sugar can now opt for rice.
For this purpose, cardholders have to download the application form from the official portal and submit it to the local authority between 5th December 2020 to 20th December 2020.
All those candidates who will submit the application must attach all the important documents along with the photocopy of the existing ration card.
Last year in November 2019, the Tamil Nadu government made a similar statement asking citizens to change their ration cards. At that time a large number of cardholders had also submitted an application to change their ration card.
Types of Tamil Nadu Digital Ration Card
There are four types of digital ration cards available for the residents of Tamil Nadu state. The list of different types of ration cards is given below:-
- Light Green Cards are issued for rice and other commodities from Fair Price Shops (FPS).
- White cards are issued for 3 kg of sugar in excess of the prescribed quota.
- No commodity card is issued to those who do not have the right to take any goods from the ration shop.
- Khaki cards are issued to police personnel up to Inspector level.

The following objectives will be fulfilled by the inauguration of Smart Ration Card in Tamil Nadu:-
- The implementation of fraudulent practices will be prevented.
- Resident’s information will be authentic.
- The conversion will prevent the cost of the paper.

- Online distribution of ration card will take less time.
- Residents now just have to apply online for ration card which will be beneficial and with very less difficulty.
- The process of implementing digital ration card will give transparency to the residents.

- Get the application form from the shop.

- Fill up the application form.

- Submit the form to the concerned department
- A reference number will be generated.
- Keep safe for future use.
